Suburbs in North Shore

This area stretches across Willoughby, Ryde and Lane Cove councils. Chatswood is a dense commercial and retail centre with high-rise apartments and a major train, metro and bus interchange. Artarmon has an industrial area south of the Gore Hill Freeway, and Lane Cove West has a business park of factories and warehouses. North Ryde combines post-war family homes with the Macquarie Park business precinct and borders Lane Cove National Park. Expect fleet and trade work in the business parks and household jobs, often bush-related, in the residential streets.

Common auto electrical jobs in North Shore

These are the jobs that come up most across the lower North Shore and Ryde.

Rodent damage near bushland

Lane Cove National Park and the bush corridors along the Lane Cove River run right past homes in North Ryde, Lane Cove West and Chatswood West. Rats and other small animals shelter in warm engine bays and chew through wiring, sensor plugs and insulation. The first sign is usually a warning light or a car that won't start. Our guide on rodent damage to car wiring explains how to spot and prevent it.

Hybrid and EV 12V systems

Hybrids and EVs are increasingly common on the North Shore, particularly in corporate fleets and among apartment owners in Chatswood. Every one still uses a small 12V battery to boot up the computers and close the main relays. If that battery fails, the car won't power on even with a full high-voltage pack. Replacing the 12V battery is routine, but the high-voltage system is strictly for licensed professionals with the proper training.

Trade van fit-outs

The industrial areas in Artarmon and Lane Cove West are home to trades, suppliers and service companies running vans and utes. Fit-outs often include inverters for tools, LED interior lights, USB outlets and reversing cameras. Each needs a fused circuit sized to the load. Our guide on choosing and installing an inverter covers sizing, cable and safety basics. Any fixed 240V wiring in a vehicle must be done by a licensed electrician.
